This programme is aimed at strengthening leadership qualities among the youth as envisaged in Andhra Pradesh Youth Policy-2018. The Divisional and District Level Youth Parliaments (Yuva Sabhas) were conducted in all the Districts.
Objectives of the scheme:
The Youth Parliament is a platform for the youth to speak up and make an impact on the change agenda for the country. The plat form will inspire the youth to express their views in an organized way. It will also allow for the emergence of bright future leaders. The target is to engage youth in a participative dialogue in a format that has never been done before. Youth have become deeply opinionated but at times are frustrated with the lack of opportunity to get their voice and opinions heard. It will also help in strengthening the roots of democracy, inculcate healthy habits of discipline, tolerance of the views of other and to enable youth to understand the working of our ParliamentInstitutions.
Advantages of Youth Parliament:
o Involvement of youth in politics leads to civic engagement which is broader than political engagement because it can include service to the community through involvement in health, education and charity work.
o Young People who participate politically in their community from early age are more likely to become engaged citizens and voters. So in order to have better “Young” citizenship, politics is one of the best tools.
o The younger generations’ fresh ideas and new leadership can help to overcome authoritarian practices.
o Youth would better understand other young people, the best way to improve this newer generation would be through politics, which is a tool used to take action for development.
Eligibility:
Youth between the age group of 18 to 35 years are eligible to participate in the sessions. Preference will be given to the youth who are working in the field of community development, members of Youth Clubs/organisations. Their academic performance and details of debates participated may also be taken into consideration.
Process of selection of participants:
i. Of the total entries received, youth @ 50 per division will be short- listed. They will be asked to appear for an open debate to examine aspects such as oratory ability, approach to the topics, depth of knowledge, in addition to self-motivation and social consciousness etc.,
ii. The finalists will be called for attending the Youth Parliament at District Level ranging between 250 and 350 according to the Divisions of theDistrict.

Prizes and certificates will be awarded to the youth selected by the evaluating panel for their meritorious performances.
